Did some Fourth of July grilling this weekend.
- Hamburgers
- Hot Dogs
- Corn-on-the-Cob
Most exciting, grilling hot dogs was my excuse to try out some new hot dog toppings. I made pickled red onion and pineapple-jalapeno relish. Pickled red-onion is a staple in my fridge but the pineapple relish was an experimental side-effect of trying (and mostly failing) to make some tepache and pickled pineapple recently.
They both tasted great, but the pineapple-jalapeno relish was incredible. Definitely an A+ hotdog topper. TL;DR - pickle some pineapple and jalapeno together, then finely chop the two and drain some of the excess vinegar.
For yucks, I also made a cherry-blueberry galette. I sort of screwed that one up both with a botched egg wash and a bad dough, but turns out sugar, fruit, and pre-made pie dough still taste pretty darn good together even when it doesn’t come out quite like the flaky pie you imagined.
Maybe one of these days, I’ll start taking pictures of all of this food.
